Resolutions

2010 . . . soon to merge into 2011 . . .  are you one to make resolutions?

In the past, my #1 resolution always was to lose weight . . . that lasted about a day!  Other changes needed in my natural self also became resolutions!

In 2000, I started a notebook to journal my resolutions . . . and what version of the Bible I was using that year.  My plan was to read my resolutions from time-to-time and stay on track!  “When pigs fly,” as the saying goes in my house!  In other words, that wasn’t happening!

My last journal entry of resolutions was 2005.  So much for journaling!  But my desire to see change in my life did not end just because I stopped writing them down.

A few of my past resolutions included . . .

Laugh more . . . love more
Eat only “my necessary food”  (straight from the book of Job!)
To criticize and judge none
To give my body and soul proper rest
More of God . . . less of me
Thankfulness
To live what I believe
Prayer
To see people through God’s eyes
Passion / compassion for the lost

Those resolutions are lofty and spiritual, don’t you think?  Nothing wrong with that, is there?  But the reality of resolutions is that we cannot change anything in our own strength!

Have I asked God what His resolution is for my life for 2011?  Well, not exactly; but I believe He has told me via Sunday morning messages Pastor Jerry has shared the past two weeks.

Luke 1:38 (NLT) . . . Mary’s response to the angel Gabriel . . .  “I am the Lord’s servant.  May everything you have said about me come true.”

This verse and a recent Beth Moore study are rumbling around in my spirit . . . actually, running parallel to each other!  And as soon as God puts words to the rumbling, I’ll share.

But for a beginning, it’s this.  Mary allowed God to come into her . . . to work through her . . . to change the world around her.

That’s what I want!

Just as with Mary, there will be some things in my life that I will have to let go of in order to take the next step in God’s plan and purpose for my life!

What is God’s “resolution” for your life in 2011?
