We Call Today . . . "Good Friday"

Betrayed
Arrested
Accused
Silent
Are you the Christ?
I am
Death sentence

For me . . . for you

Spat on
Mocked
Slapped
Flesh ripped
Disfigured beyond recognition
Purple robe
Crown of thorns
Silent

For me . . . for you

Nailed to the cross
Spikes through His wrists
His feet
Silent

For me . . . for you

Blinding darkness at noon
Sin
Sickness
Evil
Past
Present
Future
Placed upon Jesus
Father God cannot look
Turns from His Son

For me . . . for you

Jesus cried out with a loud voice
Breathed His last
Gave up His life
Temple veil torn in two
Top to bottom
Giving me . . . you . . . access
to the presence of God
Forever

For me . . . for you

Hosanna . . . Save Now!

So the disciples went and did as Jesus commanded them.
They brought the donkey and the colt,
laid their clothes on them, and set Him on them.
And a very great multitude
spread their clothes on the road;
others cut down branches from the trees
and spread them on the road.

Then the multitudes who went before
and those who followed cried out, saying:
“Hosanna to the Son of David!
‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’
Hosanna in the highest!”
Matthew 21:6-10  NKJV

I can only imagine the day
beautiful blue skies
bright sun
people pressing in to see Jesus
putting their garments on the colt
laying their garments and
palm branches on the road
expressions of homage
by the people
allegiance . . . loyalty . . . worship . . .
declaration of lordship

can you hear their heart as they shout
Hosanna . . . Save Now!

a plea from the oppressed
for deliverance
looking . . . expecting . . . an earthly king
to free them
to make things right

“The Triumphal Entry”
would there have been such celebration
on this one day
the Sunday before Jesus’ crucifixion on Friday
had they fully known . . . fully understood
God’s plan
for the true Triumphal Entry

Every day . . . all day
in every circumstance
Lay down my garments
(my cares, worries, everything contrary to God’s word)
Lift up my “palm branches”
(outstretched arms with open hands)
in praise
acknowledging Jesus as my
Lord
Savior
King

Hosanna . . . Save Now!

Absolute Trust & Peaceful Confidence

Care and provision . . .
The Lord is my shepherd;
I have all that I need.

 Peace and wholeness . . .
He lets me rest in green meadows;
he leads me beside peaceful streams.
He renews my strength.

He walks with me . . .
He guides me along right paths,
bringing honor to his name.

No fear, God is here . . .
Even when I walk
through the darkest valley,
I will not be afraid,
or you are close beside me.

Protection and comfort . . .
Your rod and your staff
protect and comfort me.

 Favor . . .
You prepare a feast for me
in the presence of my enemies.
You honor me by anointing my head with oil.
My cup overflows with blessings.

God's never-failing love and grace . . .
Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me
all the days of my life,
and I will live in the house of the Lord forever.

Pressing In

The Mall
Washington, D.C.
July 4, 2004
Ken and I
2 of 600,000
from the capitol building
to the Lincoln Monument

Standing very near
the Washington Monument
directly under the canopy of fireworks
or so it seemed
felt the earth resonate
the celebration of freedom
AWESOME!

Pressed in with 600,000 people
NOT so awesome
for this border-line claustrophobic!
WAY out of my comfort zone
but I pressed in
to be a part. . . to see . . . to experience

Twice in recent daily reading of the Word
“great crowds . . . pressed in”

“One day as Jesus was preaching
on the shore of the Sea of Galilee,
great crowds pressed in on him
to listen to the word of God.”
Luke 5:1  NLT  (emphasis added)

“But Jesus withdrew with His disciples
to the sea.  And a great multitude . . .
followed Him, . . . a great multitude,
when they heard how many things
He was doing, came to Him.
So He told His disciples that a small boat
should be kept ready for Him
because of the multitude,
lest they should crush Him.
For He healed many,
so that as many as had afflictions
pressed about Him to touch Him.
Mark 3:7-10 NKJV (emphasis added)

So I looked up the word pressed . . .

Dictionary . . .
To act upon with steadily applied weight of force
To urge or entreat strongly or insistently
To hold closely, as in an embrace; clasp
To push forward
To urge onward; hasten
To squeeze out or express, as juice

Thesaurus . . .
Bulldoze
Crowd
Crush
Pin down
Squeeze

I asked myself
is my relationship with Him
pushing me forward
drawing me to
“press in”
with all my heart, soul, and being
to hold closely
to embrace
to hear
His Word
to know
His very presence
to receive
Life
for this mortal being

Is His grace in my life
bringing desire to
bulldoze the darkness
applying a steady force of intercession for
the lost
the sick
the promises of God
the Body of Christ
